National 4-H Club Week posters

From the archives of the Montana 4-H Center, this 1953 photo shows 4-H’ers Dale Schneidt of Huntley and Shirley Wallace of Billings presenting a National 4-H Club Week poster to Dr. A.G. Peterson, president of Eastern Montana College of Education.

At the conclusion of World War II, National 4-H Club Week began as an annual effort to focus public attention on the 4-H program and youth development. As seen in the poster, the 1953 theme was “Working Together for World Understanding.” This message reflected on the recently established United Nations, and the expansion of 4-H internationally. Today, National 4-H Week is observed during the first full week of October, and celebrates the beginning of each new 4-H year.

Note: the poster below is from 1954. I couldn’t locate a copy of the 1953 poster. Source: Unknown. “Working Together for World Understanding (1954)..” Elsie Carper Collection on Extension Service, Home Economics, and 4-H, USDA National Agricultural Library.
